133 Montgomery Street in Savannah.  If you aren't a resident of Georgia you must get the marriage license in the county in which you will have your ceremony, previous to your ceremony.
    It is possible to get your license and have your ceremony on the same day, however, you should remember that office hours are 8:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday.  They are closed on Saturday and holidays, so if your ceremony is on the weekend you will have to adjust your schedule to meet their hours.
    You will need a photo ID and any papers for a recent divorce (within six months.)  You can visit the Chatham County Probate Court website for additional information.
    If you are a resident of Georgia you can get a marriage license in any county of the state and get married in any other county in the state.

Marriage Licenses                                                                       
REQUIREMENTS FOR SECURING A MARRIAGE LICENSE
Applicants must be eighteen (18) years of age or older to apply without parental consent.

Applicants may be sixteen (16) or seventeen (17) and apply for a license with consent of the parents or guardians. Parents or guardians must sign for you if you are underage. The parents must accompany the minor applying for the marriage license and must have proper identification, such as a valid drivers license. Guardians must present proper guardianship papers.

Underage female applicants who are pregnant may apply without parental consent. A letter from a doctor who practices here in Chatham County must be presented at the time of the application. The doctors letter must state that the female is pregnant, how far along she is and her estimated due date. This letter must be on the doctors letterhead with his/her original signature, not a stamped signature.

IDENTIFICATION
All applicants must present a positive I.D. This may be either a drivers license, a certified copy of a birth certificate, a military I.D., a passport, or a State I.D. card. Not acceptable are social security cards, insurance cards, credit cards, work or school I.D. cards.

BLOOD TESTS
As of July 1, 2003 the State of Georgia no longer requires a blood test to obtain a marriage license.

FEES
If the applicants have completed premarital education pursuant to Code Section 19-3-30.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated that it included at least six hours of instruction. The certificate and/or form must have an original signature and notarized stating the couple have completed the course. This information has to be on the letterhead or certificate when applying for the marriage license. Marriage License must be obtained within 12 months of date of application. The charge will be $16.00.

If the applicants have not completed premarital education, the charge will be $51.00.

PROBATE COURT HOURS FOR ISSUING MARRIAGE LICENSES
The Chatham County Probate Court issues marriage licenses from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays.
